HELP! Where to start for IE CSS?

Hey guys, I don’t make websites much, and also use a mac. So while making this website I completely neglected IE7 and below and forgot about it. Now I am in a bit of trouble and have no idea where to begin to make my site work in IE. Currently the url for the website is http://test.bijingo.com/15.

Any pointers on where to start would be much appreciated.

Hi, validate your CSS first, it’s not reading styles. This may be the cause but I checked by eye and this seems like it could be the main issue

Hi,

You want to get a vm or native version of windows running so you can really test things on windows also. I use both BootCamp and VMWareFusion - I prefer Bootcamp because it’s much faster than the VM.

The only noticeable bug I found in IE7 was the top menu links were missing completely.
This is just a hasLayout issue and the trigger for hasLayout can safely go in the main stylesheet.

Generally when you use a margin to layout an element IE will need hasLayout.
Please read the FAQ on hasLayout as that fixes about 99% of bugs in IE

I’ll have a look at ie6 now. I generally don’t use IE specific stylesheets, I prefer to keep the style rules together and IE7 very rarely needs separate code.
I use the IE6 filter * html before a selector to serve specific styles to that browser. e.g.

It was a validation issue not haslayout, and floating gives haslayout :slight_smile:
