Google plus one

Now Google allow us to post the Google plus one in our site, so I wonder that maybe Google now pay more attention in G+.
What do you think about the role of Google plus one in SEO?

I think G+ has not established any impression on SEO. Because Facebook is till the most popular Social Networking website.

When you say “I wonder that maybe Google now pay more attention in G+”, I assume you are referring to search results.

A site’s search engine ranking is not directly affected by Google +. Just because the site has been “plus one’d” doesn’t improve its ranking.

However, if the searcher is logged into their Google account, and if they have not disabled interest-based search, then the activities of people in their Google + circle can affect what you see when you search. For example, if members of your circle have posted content on the topic you are searching for, those posts are more likely to come up in search results than posts by other people. This is known as "“Google Search Plus Your World”.

Google plus is one of the best network site, in seo terminology sharing thing only, not useful for back-link, popularity, etc…

Please note that this question is not asking about Google + social networking site. It is asking about the effect of adding Google +1 buttons to a web page. Please keep your replies on-topic, or they will be removed as fluff.

+1 is getting more important to rankings in Google as time goes by. At the end of the day it is Googles idea so they will like people to use it. At the recent SMX conference in Seattle the Google staff expressly said that +1’s will be having an effect on SERP rankings. However it should be noted that to use the G+ function it will be associated with an account and Google will monitor heavily for spam.

SearchMinistry,

That’s very interesting. But can I make sure I understand what you are saying.

You said “+1’s will be having an effect on SERP rankings”. Does that mean that every time someone clicks the +1 button on a page, that will have a positive effect on the page’s ranking - across the board? Or does it only apply to the clicks made by people in the searcher’s Google + circle (which is what I have assumed)?

I appreciate that you’re only reporting what the Google rep said, and you have no inside knowledge. I just want to make sure I have interpreted it correctly.

I also wonder how much weight the +1 button will have compared to, say, a Facebook Like button.

Hi Mike,

From what I understood from the lecture was that Google is moving heavily towards personalised and local results. So for instance if you had +1’d a website in a certain market then Google could return other sites (probably with lots of +1’s) that might be of interest to you.
Sometimes you can see this in effect when you do some searches and clear your cache and cookies you will sometimes see slightly different results. A difference can sometimes be seen when you do a search when logged into your Google account and that same search when logged out can return slightly different results.
What they did not make clear was how they would be dealing with the +1 spam factor because it is very easy to create a stack of Google accounts and have a bot create lots of +1’s.
I think Google have got a long way to go with getting this right but from what I gathered the +1’s are just one of the 200 odd factors they take into account. They certainly take Social Networking and sharing more seriously than they ever have before and I would expect in the near future that optimising Google’s products such and Google+ and +1 will be just as important and onpage optimisation and link building.

Thanks, Rich. That’s a very clear explanation. You’re right that your search results vary according to whether you’re logged into a Google account - except that I wouldn’t use the word “slightly” to describe that. I’ve seen quite big differences, even though I’m not very active in my use of +1.

I can see the point of all this as far as “social” type searches are concerned: things like movie reviews or recommendations for restaurants or holiday destinations. I’m less sure about how useful it is for things like academic research, or finding out about government legislation, or searching for technical issues, or even basic stuff like news and weather. It will be interesting to see how it develops.

I have the same opinion with you. Google allow us add the G 1+ button on our site, this mean when readers feel your site interesing and useful, if want they can introduce to their G 1+ circles, this action can be considered as one vote for your site. You have more vote, you will be higher appriciated by Google. Of course they must have Google account and log in G 1+

off course Google give the +1 importance in Google because it’s shows your website popularity but what’s the measurement of Google no body know.

My friend and I have been trying this to his site and he said that it’s getting better SEO effect for his site. So I guess putting Google +1 to your site will provide not better rankings but better affiliation of your site with Google.

Just check that you are seeing Google’s real results, and not Google’s personalised results. Use a different computer, and don’t sign in to Google. Do you still see your site in the same place?

If not then all you’ve been doing by clicking ‘+1’ is boosting your site’s position when logged in as you.

Its awesome tools according to SEO experts its a global hub to share links idea etc…
