very strange
is it a bug in google ? How this impossible???/

Seems like Google is updating?! At least some of my new sites got finally a PR!

Get a list of updated Datacenters here: http://www.andreas-kraus.net/blog/google-pagerank-update-in-progress-2/

Google does not show all the backlinks and try searching the same in Yahoo and you will realize its not 2 links.

There’s an inbound from this site according to alexa

When will be the Google Next update?

I’ve heard it’s in July.

Hmm 2 more months to go :frowning: . How I wished they could do it in June itself

Hi all, does anyone know when/how Google does it’s Page Rank updates?. Does it have a certain time in the month when it does a ranking update sweep across all sites (and if so when was the last update) or is it just something that it does on an individual site basis? and can therefpre happen anytime. Sorry if this is a daft question, just nothing seems to change on any of my page rankings.

Cheers
Graham

No certain time we know
Just my guess at the end of this month or in july

Don’t get too caught up on your PR. Unless you are selling the site, it’s meaningless whether it shows on the toolbar or not. Your site still ranks the same in the searches.

the only thing im bothered with PR is, selling space, im looking for people to advertise on my site, its quite new but its a podcast site and we have quite a few downloads the first thing potentional advertisers look at it…you guessed it PR.

I saw PR in my Internet explorer and it is diff. rank for different web pages
can any one tell me what is PR? and what it shows?

I think the PR update rolled back, they must of only been testing something.

From the Google FAQ:

PR stands for PageRank. As explained by Google:
PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves “important” weigh more heavily and help to make other pages “important.”

Important, high-quality sites receive a higher PageRank, which Google remembers each time it conducts a search. Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don’t match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines all aspects of the page’s content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it’s a good match for your query.

As explained by WikiPedia:

PageRank is a patented method (an algorithm) to assign a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of “measuring” its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references. The numerical weight that it assigns to any given element E is also called the PageRank of E and denoted by PR(E).

PageRank was developed at Stanford University by Larry Page (hence the name Page-Rank) and Sergey Brin as part of a research project about a new kind of search engine. The project started in 1995 and led to a functional prototype, named Google, in 1998. Shortly after, Page and Brin founded Google Inc., the company behind the Google search engine, which still has PageRank as a key element.

Summary: PageRank is your page’s popularity on the Web. (Notice I didn’t say website).

PageRank != Page’s Rank. They are two very different things.
Is google PR updating? I hear it might be updating on other forums and wanted to go to the best place to ask about it. I thought it was going to happen in augest.

Note: This thread is more than 14 months old. Please consider creating a new thread instead.

No one considered that he was speaking about an update that took part 1 year ago? Or perhaps it’s system bug?

I have also read that the PR was updating few days back but cant see any change. Probably it has been rolled back

I don’t thik PR is updating at the moment. Usually IBL update is happen before PR update on toolbar.
