Google Affiliate Program - worth it?

Received a notification last October to link a Google Affiliate network with my Adsense account, which never happened. Not familiar with their program, maybe I wasn’t sufficiently motivated. Perhaps in the back of my mind the idea that they penalized sites that posted affiliate links, then, turned around and started their own program – smacked of a zone none too inviting! How convenient.

I must assume this came from merchant migrating away from C.J. or the like.

Is their affiliate program worthwhile and do they have a decent list of merchants?

Is there a published list of their merchants and where can it be found?

From which affiliate link networks does Google now penalize sites? I should think not their own.

Some are able to make money with it. My personal experience was that I was getting ripped off. There’s no way to tell how often people are actually clicking and you have to blindly trust that they will tll you the truth. St one time the number clicks they claimed occured double yet I was paid half as much. I don’t join any blind trust affilitae programs.

Anybody got a list of their merchants or say roughly how many merchants in their network. I have not joined it.
