Forwarding Domains, Blacklist, and Google

Hey everyone,

I’m fairly certain I know the answer to this, but I want to double-check my knowledge. If anyone has any official responses or pages from Google on this subject, please let me know as well.

So, if I have a site which has one domain name. Then I have other domain names which are forwarded to the original domain (so, for example if you type in exampleB.com, your URL in the address bar is changed to exampleA.com). If I do this, that won’t get me blacklisted or count as duplicate content. Correct?

I’m forwarding them with a 301 redirect as well.

Thanks.

The main problem would be if you trying to buy old domains with pagerank and forward them to your domain to boost your pagerank. Using the standard 301 should be fine in 99% of cases say if you are just forwarding the .net to the .com, etc.

I did the same 301 redirect for a site, 3-4 months ago and no penalties yet!

You’re correct it’s not duplicate content and you won’t get a penalty if you’re doing it with just a few domains. So it’s fine if you’re consolidating a bunch of related domains onto one site, but there is little value in buying aged domains to do this.

If you start doing it in bulk, then it might flag google to look more closely at what you’re doing.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Basically, the scenario I’m looking at is we have about 80 domains which are related to our main domain which we want to point to our main domain name. We don’t want to duplicate any content like that, and are playing to use 301 forwards to them. I don’t think most (or any) of the domains have really been used before, so none of them should have any PR (or inbound links for that matter).

Is this is possible, i mean what would Google considered this as Black hat

Do it gradually.

Amongst the domains that you plan to eliminate (redirect to your main one), select a few and redirect the rest towards those few first. See what happens. Then consolidate again, and finally, - if everything is okay, SEO-wise, point those few towards your main one.
