in fireworks, how do i get two objects that look like this: http://prntscr.com/1158ga

to combine to look like this: http://prntscr.com/1158ks

i tried the Knife Tool but didnt get very far with it.

any ideas? thanks!

Maybe I misunderstand your Q, but the answer is you cant… by the very definition of what an object is.

An ‘object’ is ‘ONE SHAPE with ONE TREATMENT’. so, tho you could merge the shapes, they will then be one uniform color/transparency, stroke…etc( treatment).

if you want to keep the objects together for organizational sake, maybe you can use a layer group.
