The ones with no year are from the current year.

I see @HAWK ninja’d me

If the post is within the current year (2014), it won’t be shown immediately, if it was a prior year (2013 or before), it shows up. So any post you see that does not clearly show the year, was made in 2014.

I’ve noticed lately that SitePoint articles are showing up on my “new” threads feed.

I like to open all the new threads and then decide whether or not to read on, so that they don’t stay on the list the next time I visit the forums. But I always check out the articles first before I come to the forums, so it’s a bit of a pain having to deal with them all over again.

Is there any way I can have all links pointing to SitePoint articles not show up on my feed?

Not that I’m aware of because they are cross-category. We could definitely write something, if the request is popular enough, but it wouldn’t be high priority as we still have a few bugs to iron out first.

Is anyone else having the same frustration?

It’s just a minor inconvenience. I don’t want to make work if it’s not something that bothers others.

Another question - when I’m using my laptop, after reading a thread I can just hit the back button to go back to the list of new threads.

But when I’m on my phone or tablet (both Android), when I hit the back button it takes me right out of the forums to the SitePoint homepage and I have to find my back through several layers to get to the list of new threads to read the next one.

Is there any way around this?

Maybe you don’t need to any more? I’m quite pleased that I can keep in touch with SP articles without having to go to the site any more. Perhaps just me, though.

The mobile layout isn’t ideal, but one option is to touch the hamburger menu and choose the Latest option. Won’t work if you have fat fingers, but I seem to manage it most of the time, and mine aren’t little.

God yes count me in. Im glad someone brought it up. I thought I was the only one!

Which browser on Android are you using?

My phone and my tablet both use Android Browser 4 - at least that’s what whatsmybrowser.org says. I’m not familiar with that one.

So its the stock globe type icon. I know if you use Google Chrome (I know that isn’t what you want to hear), the back button works great. So you may have to use a different browser on your phone (as that one’s back button is a bit “funky”)

Thanks, I’ll try it. I haven’t been too happy with this browser anyhow - just too lazy so far to switch.

Hey guys,

I often see people who ask database related questions and post screenshot of their query results forget to obfuscate the data. More often than not it results in them publishing customer data containing names, locations, events, and so on. I think, forum policy and FAQ should be amended with some sentences about this. There are people who take privacy protection very seriously and who won’t be very amused if they learn that their personal data has been carelessly published here.

[/quote]I’m not sure adding it to the FAqs will help very much. I suspect that when peopl post their problems, they’re so busy thinking about the problem, they don’t stop to consider just what they’re posting. Changing the FAQs won’t help them think.

But you’re right that it is a problem. Where we notice it, we do edit posts to remove it, so if you notice a post with inappropriate data, please feel free to flag it for moderator attention.

The FAQ already has these, what more would you suggest?

Keep personal information private. All posts in the forums are easily found via search engines, so unless you're willing to expose your information to the world, please do not post telephone numbers, e-mail addresses etc in your posts.

These are not concrete terms with precise definitions — avoid even the appearance of any of these things. If you’re unsure, ask yourself whether you’d go on TV and publicly say it on camera.

The Internet is Forever

Before you post, please think carefully about what you post. These days it’s good business practice to Google your company name every so often to see what people are saying about you. For that reason, if you’re asking for basic advice on how to deal with a difficult client, it would be prudent to avoid naming them.

At SitePoint we accept that occasionally people make silly mistakes and we’ll do everything we can to help you out, but we simply lack the time to edit hundreds of posts and heavy edits or post deletions compromise the flow of a discussion. So please, think first.

Sorry, I overlooked those.

May be a sticky thread in the database category would help, I don’t know…

Selecting one quote is easier now !

Can I make a suggestion? I think it’s great that we’ve got the articles integrated with the forum discussions now … is there any way that you could flag on the index pages which threads are following on from articles?

In lieu of anything like that, you can select the “article” tag to view all article threads.

We’ll be doing a bit of an overhaul of the tagging system this year, and could look at displaying the tags more prominently.
