I am new to Dreamweaver, I’m trying to create a newsletter to be emailed.
The design has a full background image with some text on top of it and a couple of links.
I’ve tried setting it up as a table with the image as a background which seems to work ok.
The issue is with the text, when I view it in design view it is so different than in live view. Live view moves all the text up from their original positions.
I’ve tried to amend the text to display correcting in live view by moving it down in design view but this seems to display incorrectly when I set up the email. I can’t seem to figure out where it is going wrong!
I’m not sure if there is a tag that is wrong, I’m only starting to learn the coding.
Any help would be much appreciated.
HTML email is an awful way to learn coding, as email clients are notoriously backward in their support for HTML and CSS, meaning that you have to use hideous code from the 1990s to have any hope of an email rendering nicely.
So designs like the one you’ve posted are hopelessly impractical for HTML email. For one thing, background images are not well supported in email, and you have to use rotten old tables for layout, too.
My advice to you is scrap this design. Some very talented people have done a lot of work creating nice templates that work well across most email clients, such as here:
