DIV is similar to SPAN

hello.
can anyone tell me in a Web Design CSS…
how DIV element is similar to the SPAN element in function?

They’re both container elements. They don’t describe the contents contained, they just contain it. They can be used to logically group content which can later be styled with CSS.

Divs are block level and can contain any other element, where as spans are inline and can only contain text and other inline elements.

For the difference between inline and block a quick search found this
Block-Level vs. Inline Elements
