Best Way to Create an Online Marketplace Site

Hey guys,

I’m pretty new to web design and have just started cracking open some sitepoint books.

For those who can see the bigger picture, what would be the best way to create something like the Envato Theme marketplace. If anyone can suggest the steps you would take to create something like this, or even if you know of any templates you could recommend, this would be really appreciated.

A tall task to learn all the stuff I assume I must need to know to create something like this, but why not?!

You can always start with eCommerce platforms such as Magento or Prestashop and work on your design elements by using the templates on those applications. Once you have templating down, you can move on to the next step by making a template from scratch and move into maybe building your own eCommerce platform.
