Best Buy Trademark Question

I need to register a domain for a small product comparison site. I was wondering if a site like is violating Best Buy’s trademark rights?
I mean, come on… these 2 widely used words Best and Buy are not quite like Nike or Sega…

I don’t think so. As far as I understand trademark law (which isn’t all that much, mind you, and definitely seek professional advice before you do anything) if you’re not operating a competing business or within a similar industry, the company would have no claim to the name. Especially if you’re modifying the name with “comparison”.

I don’t think you’d have any issues with it. But again, might be best to ask a trademark attorney just to be safe.

Trademark infringement is all about the possibility of consumer confusion. Sounds like there’s more than enough there for Best Buy’s lawyers to be salivating.

Question is, will they care? If they do, what would you be prepared to do if they wanted to drag you through the courts?
