Seems Alstrasoft is based in Singapore. (a la Nigeria) There is no “John Ward”. Just some character called Wai Kim something. Which is why they never answer the phone. Wouldn’t sound good to have John Ward speaking with a Nigerian/Singaporean accent…
Thanks dkg, it always good to know when scripts are repackaged for whatever reason and then renamed. I do think it looks nifty, I’m just waiting to see whether someone has a site up and running and how it runs live.
I have setup a social network using Joomla, you can see the site at http://www.mygodlyplace.com This site took me about 2 weeks of adding mods, comps and mambots, checking what works and what doesn’t, but I have almost gotten it to perfection on working, I have a gender icon error and a couple errors but that is it.
If anyone needs a site setup using Joomla and mods please contact me, I work cheap LOL:goof:
I’m not a big fan of taking the first dip either. Has anybody had any experience with this script either as ifDate or in its current incarnation as Joovili?
This script is very tempting as it has everything I’ve been looking for in a SNS. Videos, music, pictures, blogs, personalized pages, etc. If I decide to spring for it I will try to update this forum with the progress.
The design is nice and clean, but really i think that’s all it has going for it - and I think that’s why everyone is WoW’d by it. Everything else is cookie cutter features.
The problem with the majority of these scripts is no built-in scalability, such as multiple server support for video/image uploads. I guess it’d be ok for a small community you don’t expect/want to grow.
The features may well be cookie cutter features, but they are the features I am seeking. I am more concerned about what is under the hood. I have looked at the forum and so far I don’t see too many complaints. I am going to watch their forum for a while.
Don’t mean to get off topic, but I am an EE user (and love it by the way). Just thought I’d point out that they do have an official documentation. It’s here: http://expressionengine.com/docs/
if anyone’s interested, tonight I found the original owner of Phpizabi…he has a new site.
I had read that there was a massive fall out…and here on his new forum, he describes the fall out. The title of the thread is “Meet The True PHPizabi Founder”
I regards to Joovili, i eventually took the plunge and purchased it the other day and so far i am very happy! Unlike many here i am no expert in php so i wanted something that was very easy to work with, which it is, but i can’t comment on the code etc. I had looked at others including Alicia, and even trialed Alicia but even though it was free, by the time i had paid for the mods i wanted and paid someone to install the one or 2 i was unable to (like a decent forum) it probably would have worked out the same and alicia just doesn’t have the clean look that Joovili has. The support has been excellent. I paid to have it installed and within two hours of purchase it was up and running!!! and they are very friendly. It does have its faults though, such as not being able to comment on blogs or pictures, the forum is very simple etc but they are about to bring out a new fix which should rectify some of these. My biggest gripe is that if you want to charge you cannot do so monthly, it is only one off and it doesn’t look like there are any plans to fix this other than that so far so good.
Joovili does look interesting. I’m wondering about it’s ability to integrate with vBulletin which is the only major component of my community right now. I’m trying to find a product that doesn’t detract from that, but adds a social networking feel and functionality.
Hi - I’m not sure how you missed it before February of this year, but the docs have been there for a pretty good while. I’ve been an EE user for nearly a year and they’ve been there since I’ve been using it. In fact…after a quick search on the Way Back Machine, here is an cached archive page of the docs from 2003 http://web.archive.org/web/20030228194656/http://www.pmachine.com/docs/ when it was still called PMachine but essentially the same product.
