And the 2009 Community Award Winners are

congrats all!

I disagree. I think that everyone who was nominated were worthy of the awards and that it is just unfortunate that a choice had to be made between them as to who the winner would be. I donā€™t think that anyone who won an award that they were nominated for were any more or less worthy of the award than those who were nominated but didnā€™t win. All of those who were nominated made a huge contribution to SitePoint this past year. It is just unfortunate that all of them canā€™t be recognised for their contribution.

Very nicely put. It must also be remembered that some people CHOSE not to be eligible to accept the award. Just about every person (except for 2 underdogs) were nominated for what they should have. Iā€™m quite impressed with the sitepoint community on recognizing and acknowledging the good members of this forum

Off Topic:

OH NO! Sitepoint took away the thumbs up emoticon??

Yep, they did.

You have to remember that we all have different favourites, people whose style, sense of humour or even way of writing code we prefer. We donā€™t necessarily all agree on who is the most helpful or participative, and if you have personally received help from someone, that is likely to heavily influence your vote. So it isnā€™t surprising if the person you think is the most deserving didnā€™t win in some cases, and like Stephen so rightly says, there is only one winner, but that doesnā€™t diminish the contributions made by all the other people.

They scared me thereā€¦I tried  and  to no availā€¦it isnā€™t even in the ā€œmoreā€ smilies list, which is what REALLY threw me off.

I cant agree more with you.

Being nominated is recognition enough.

Agreed, I was nominated in a few categories and was happy just to be mentioned, I never expected to win (though Iā€™m very happy to have won something).

I disagree with you.

All those nominated were not equal in their contirbutions to these forums. Some of the nominees were selfless and even went out of their way to help. Other nominees also contributed but not to the same extent. Their contributions, although to be praised, were not as good as other nominees. I donā€™t think you can equate people and how they help other people. It is human nature that some people are born to be the most helpful, and they deserve to be awarded for that. I felt disappointed bacause I feel they did not get the awards that I truly believe they deserve.

You know how the nominating process goes on. Anybody can nominate who they want. That is why there are list of nominees the lenth of your hand. I know some of them dropped out. But for those running for awards, they were NOT all equall in their contributions.

I guess I made myself clear.

I agree that the contributions were not equal. I disagree that it necessarily means that the person who made the biggest contribution is the one who should necessarily be the one who ought to have won. The size of the contribution made is only one factor in determining who deserves to win. If it were the only factor then it wouldnā€™t have been necessary to collect votes as a program could have been used to determine who made the biggest contribution for each of the awards and they could have been presented without any need for nominations or voting.

Congratulations to all the award winners and thank you for drawing me SitePoint! How do I get the certificate though?

Well done everyone!

Congratulations to all the nominees

I donā€™t venture out of the Web design forums too often so I can personally say that Alex, Felgall, cooper.semantics, Ryan and the-greatest-thing-to-ever-happen-to-sitepoint Paul Oā€™B are all very worthy to have their names up in lights. Well done guys,

Congratulations to all nominated and to all you awarded! You definitely deserve the recognition!

And a great thanks to all that joined in the most important part; the voting! Represented by a few prize winners.

Also to Dave and the staff members that did all the work behind the scene!

Darren, I would send a PM to the community manager Raena.

Congrats to all that won!

How about 5 people with equal contributions? The Program would have miserably failed to pick a winner. So human judgment is needed.

I thought the point of the awards were for the forum members to exercise their judgment. It does not of course mean the person with the biggest contributions should win. Of course not. That would have resulted in a farce. When I said all contributions were not equal, I did not mean quantity. I meant quality contributions.

Hey voucher winning folk - just working on that now!

Congratulations to all the winners! You make this place awesome!

Wow congratulations to the winnerā€¦

Congratulations to all nominated and to all you awarded!
