404 redirect to homepage with htaccess

Hi,

I have a 404 redirect to the homepage. (Using htaccess)

Will the 404 error still be seen by google? Or will it think there are no 404 errors?

If it’s 404 header it will. Though I’m not sure how this works with regard to the header, as a redirect is 3## and not found is 404, so which is it?
Try putting an affected URL into “Fetch as Google” in Search Console, that will tell you what Google sees in the header.

yes - it shows as not found. So it looks good; it does work.
