Browserpool

Has anyone used browserpool for checking how website's look on different platform with different browsers?(www.browserpool.com)

Signed up for the free test account and had to download some software but mcaffee highlighted a virus - "vncviewer.exe -remote admin tool"

Obviously a bit wary of this now.

Anybody used it with no problems?

I've not used BrowserPool, but I've often used BrowserCam. You can sign up for a free 24hr trial account...as many times as you have unique email addresses

You can also try browsershots.
It has fewer systems/browsers available + sometimes you have to wait for your screenshots to be made (up to a few hours), but it's free.

Thanks for your replies awestmoreland and Varelse.

I need to check a site using an IE5 and Windows 98 combination - browsercam's excellent but it doesn't offer this combination and I don't have the patience for browershots!

Browserpool would have allowed me remote access to Windows 98 OS but I'm going to err on the side of caution I think.

Why do you need that combination?

Browsercam seems to offer it via their remote access service.

If you want a BrowserCam account, check this thread.

A visitor to my company's website is having difficulty viewing the website and they're using that platform/browser combination. I recently, converted the website to a css/xhtml layout and even though the site looks fine in ie5 on xp I don't know what the problem is their end until I can see what they're seeing. I've asked them to take a screenshot of what they see and email it to me, but no joy yet.

Remote access would be ideal and that link for browsercam looks excellent.

Thanks Kravvitz

You're welcome

Ah. Tell them to upgrade to IE6 or even better -- to switch to Firefox or Opera. There is no excuse to still be using a gen 5 browser on Win98. Since Microsoft no longer supports Win98, why should web developers still be expected to support browsers that are so old that they aren't even the newest version available for such an old OS?

Try CrossBrowserTesting.com - they allow you to test your site without a download in mulitple browsers and operating systems, and offer free 5 minute sessions for you to try them.
Thanks,
Ken
