Most social media links are nofollow, so while you may gain traffic if you post something of genuine interest, you will not gain backlinks.

Also, PageRank is calculated per page, not per site, so even if the home page is high PR, the pages where you post are unlikely to be so. And Google places little value on links which you place yourself (those it describes as not “editorially placed vouched for”), so even if they are not nofollow, you will gain little or no benefit from them.
Any links intended to manipulate PageRank or a site’s ranking in Google search results may be considered part of a link scheme and a violation of Google’s Webmaster Guidelines. This includes any behavior that manipulates links to your site or outgoing links from your site.
