Many firms no longer have public facing email addresses, probably where the email addresses get spammed a lot

agree, they not have peope to respon our email. They firm just need our data.

Being the thread starter, I have to admit that some sites might actually offer a simple way to close an account. Yesterday, I decided to end my Netflix account. To my surprise, they had a clear, obvious button saying something like “Ending your subscription? Click here”. Done in five seconds.
Whether this means that they’ll hammer me with mails and offers for the next ten years or just leave me alone (perhaps even erase my data), only future will tell.
But the clear button was nevertheless appreciated.
