Seo perspective on two Niche on one domain

Suppose I have a domain say sample-domain.com, and I want to create two blog inputs such as →

  1. http://wordpress.sample-domain.com
  2. http://online-marketing.sample-domain.com

On one domain’s two different sub-domain I am targetting two different, but very related niche. is that Ok with SEO perspective as long as the content is of high quality and high calliber.

Other websites also do this →

  1. https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/
  2. https://magento.stackexchange.com/
  3. https://mathematica.stackexchange.com/

I think it won’t be harmful as far as sub-domains are concerned?

And what will be precursors If I do it like this →

  1. http://sample-domain.com/wordpress
  2. http://sample-domain.com/online-marketing
  3. http://sample-domain.com/seo
