An opening section tag should be followed immediately by a heading tag or it gets flagged as a warning by the validator. This fact alone tells you much about the use of the section element and you would use it in introducing a new section in exactly the same way that you would have added a heading tag.
If its not a new or separate section then don’t use that tag,
As others have said whether you style the tag is up to you but why waste it.
