I am struggling with wordpress resizing images, can someone help me why it does it automatically?

where is the 300x200 coming from?

Have you read the Wordpress documentation?
Wordpress is a high-end professional product. I am not a Wordpress person, but I would think that very complete “how to use Wordpress” information would be found in their documentation. It would not be to their advantage to skimp on the user instructions.
