Finding CSS pastel colour names

After far too many hours, I’ve finally come up with what seems to be a good selection of color names for pastel rainbow colors. The process I went through (after several failed attempts) might be of some interest to others.

I found an excellent list of CSS tints and shades but I was wanting to use names, not necessarily for the CSS names, to provide some sort of anchor on which to recognize them. HtmlCssColor was a nice place to explore different tints of colour, but the names it was using didn’t seem to have much relationship with existing color names.

Using that site to explore colors was great, but what finished things off nicely was a combination of css color names and the css color chart.

Finally, what seemed to be a good collection of rainbow pastel colors emerged.

For interest’s sake, the appropriate css color names for these are:

  • pink
  • peachpuff
  • lightgoldenrod1
  • palegreen1
  • paleturquoise1
  • lightsteelblue2
  • thistle2

Hopefully others will find this to be of some interest and/or help too.

This is another good source of names. Go to the very long table at the bottom of the page.

Thanks, though I do notice that the named color rebeccapurple that was approved and added to the CSS color names list a couple of years ago now, isn’t to be found in that list.
