I know i am a bit late in this thread, but thought i should recommend -
Pinging the sitemap works best i reckon for new sites to yahoo, msn and google and then at least 5 to 10 good related backlinks and your site will be indexed in a few hours…

This is the one I find most amusing because it is an oxymoron. On page optimization is crafting the site for the search engines to pick up your website for certain keyword terms. However if you stuff you site with keywords it will sounds ridiculous when a human actually visits.
The truth is you have to write for both human and search engines and this is where it becomes more of an art than a science.
Both are true, if you build your web site for human being and if you don’t get traffic, then no point in it , so you have to have good content and also search engine friendly meta’s to get indexed for traffic and index.

After reading so many articles about SEO, I am still not quite get it how it works and how to make it works, but from the excerpt FAQ above, submitting the website to the Search Engines might help?? If do, then how do I submit a website to the Search Engines by hand?

This is quite a ton of information. It good bringing them together in one place just like a reference book. I find it useful. So I say thanks for sharing.
If submitting by hand seems overwhelming for you then you can hire somebody to do it…aka people at Mechanical Turk (Amazon)…or hire freelancers…if your budget allows it.
If your budget doesn’t allow it (because don’t have one) then you do it yourself…one by one…little by little.
Why does anyone want to submit his site to searchengines?
There is only Google, some Yahoo and a tiny bit MSN…and they find you very fast when putting some backlinks. Which you have to do anyway.
Don’t you ever tried submitting yours?..
I guess it’s much easier if you submit directly to them…

this really is an awesome overview, I know the post has been around for some time but i’m still impressed with how relevant it is. Just goes to show that despite technological changes little alters in the SEO world
Google pretty much dominates, and Yahoo rounds it out. Here are my site’s stats for that
- google 81.25%
- yahoo 17.05%

aol 0.64% - live 0.50%
- msn 0.20%
- ask 0.13%
- alltheweb 0.06%
- lycos 0.02%
hate to break it to you, but submitting to any other site besides yahoo and google (and maybe aol and live) is probably a waste.

On a shared server I have one dedicated IP.
Currently 10 of my domains are live w/ website and pointing to this dedicated IP.
Is 10 domains too many, and therefore defeating one of the advantages of a dedicated IP ?
I mean did I create my own mini shared hosting next to my “neighbours” ?

Are those domains extensively linking to each other, and are they related to each other? If not, then you’re probably safe.
Two are related to each other : one is a blog, the other is a website subdived in subdomains (one subdomain for each new and different topic/product) discussed in the blog.
One subdomain related to PLR products, the other to video marketing products etc. You probably already know what I mean.
The reason I’m asking is that I might buy a second dedicated IP with different C Class.
AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD where at least the CCC in both IPs is different.
That would put both in a different “neighbourhood”/“area”.
I already asked my hosting provider, and they told me that I would probably have to move some websites to one of the other data centers where they have servers under a different company name. This company issues different C Class IPs.
I’m a bit unsure about this last bit. that’s why I’m asking whether it’s worth the hassle at all.

Still looking into it. I also have a lot on my plate as well, including having to care full time for an elderly relative who was just released from a nursing home. (And that’s on top of work and what I do here.)

I really agree with the point about page validation because many people mistakenly assume that by having their web codes validated, they would be found on the first page of Google the next day which is absolutely impossible.
So many top ten ranking sites are loaded with code errors.
