Detecting when someone leaves the website

this in turn allows you to record another demographic, which is % of users without AJAX support. Something that should be of interest to any site with any serious AJAX based functionality.

I don’t know of anywhere that actually tries to capture that info but we can probably get a reasonable estimate by considering what browsers do and don’t support it.

Basically IE4+ supports it as do all all common versions of Firefox/Mozilla/Netscape 6+, Safari, Google Chrome, Opera 7+ (I think) and probably other less common browsers as well. That means that there are probably only about 1% of people (probably less) who are using a browser that doesn’t support it.

Figures for Ajax support would therefore not be greatly different from the 6 to 10 percent who don’t have JavaScript enabled say between 6.01 and 10.01 percent who don’t have ajax enabled.
