I vote for Basecamp over Facebook for two reasons, Facebook is too complicated whereas the simplicity of Basecamp truly has served as inspiration to modern start-ups.

Facebook has such a superficial my group is bigger than your group, kind of mentality. I have been introduced to creative uses of Facebook, and yet remain unconvinced that it is a genuine way to "build community."

37 signals book, Getting Real, has catalyzed a generation of web visionaries with their concept of opinionated software. This includes my own web properties of Code-Roller and Cogenuity.

I love facebook. I've been on it I think since around the beginning and I love it more that it has status updates that incorporate with twitter. It might be a direct rip off of twitter...but more people I know actually use it.

I've hardly used Basecamp but Facebook has made distributing photos and videos to friends and family much much easier. In fact, I got my folks to sign up to Facebook just for that purpose.

Happy Bday to both of them!

As everything in life you get positive and negative aspects. It's how you use things in your advantage that makes a difference.

I'm new on Facebook and have only used Basecamp a couple of times as I am a very young developer. I think both are great tools in what they are doing and both can be of great help to all of us.

If you're not using the tools that you have available in your favor and use them just because ... that's nobody's problem ... maybe yours (who ever you are).

Facebook is only good for wasting time. I am constantly using the net to source knowledge, ideas and entertainment. The only time I use facebook is to view photos of people I barely know.

Facebook.... meh. Barely use it, don't like it.

Basecamp is also not an app I use all the time, but when I need it, it's there and works very well for its intended purpose. More importantly, though, it's given me a great framework in RoR. Rails and the Rails community has made me a better developer, not just of rails applications, but as a whole.

Facebook could disappear tomorrow and the only impact that it would have on me is that I wouldn't have to listen to friends going on and on and on about Facebook, which would actually be kind of nice.

Happy birthday, Basecamp.
