I have to add CRAIGSLIST, amazing audience and although it is overcrowded with corporate spam, I have found if you write a personalized intelligent response to 20-30 ads average 20% respond back, and 40-50% turn to client.

What worries me though is the possibility that the job board “craze” will explode to the point that everyone thinks they have to have a job board on their site if their site is going to be successful, “loved by Google” and so forth. It’s just not possible for every site to have one, nor should it be necessary to begin with.

On top of that, I’ve found that job board sites tend to be rather cyclical when it comes to job listings that match my criteria (in other words, are ones I’m interested in working on). Of course, I could lower my expectations a bit and take on the “cheap jobs” but I’d rather commit myself to a few good ones so I can concentrate on other aspects of my life, rather than just working 24-7 doing nothing but client work and chasing up the next job board listing (and let’s face it, searching out new leads is work in and of itself; except that it’s not billable).

But, I guess that’s the problem with someone who specializes in a few key areas, the person becomes an expert in a handful of fields, and nothing more than a new person (or “n00b” in the others.

Is it just me or does every single aspect of this comment seem foolish? Why are you worried about a job board craze? What does it being loved by Google have to do with the fact that it’s a job board? Why would it be necessary for every site to have a job board? How is a job board “cynical” when displaying results based on your search criteria? Do you mean the responses you get are “cynical”?

Ugh..

Lower your expectations, what?

Chasing up the next job board is that much work for you, huh? Well, thank god for posts like these. Wow, imagine how incredibly lost and miserable you would be if the job board itself didn’t even exist to help you find work! Perhaps every site should have one!
