For XHTML to be valid it has to be well formed first! (But not vice versa).

Anyway, the W3C validator improved considerably recently, partly in order to be able to deal with RDFa, so you should be good to go.

(For the experts: The major improvement was not having to declare the xmlns prefixes in the DTD anymore).</description>
