It's fascinating to see how the open source movement is developing. I get the feeling the big players just aren't sure where to postion themselves.

Like the author of the article said: "what is SUN decides to charge for installation?" I think mysql is going to loose it's popularity in web development..

I think Sun is intending to keep Java alive and is afraid Java will loose its popularity now.

Since they have acquired MySQL then Sun is likely to control the IT field with Eclipse and having MySQL to be included in Eclipse. This will favor Suns role and hence bring more profit and popularity for Java.

They can afford it. lmao. My dad is a truck driver, that hauls special commodities. My dad hauled 8 truck loads of bamboo flooring, $150k a truck load, to the CEO of Sun's mansion. Quite unbelievable how rich the CEO of Sun is.

I think this is a good move by SUN on the account of the database senario. Like the IBM , in 2005 opened up the DB2 source. This is a era of Community participation and even Sun goes for Mysql Development on the Solaris platform its appriciatable that the chunk of Mysql DB will remain.
