wow, thanks to Patrick Lenz and SitePoint! i always wanted this book.

someone said its a scam to get emails; bollocks! the link does come, be patient. SitePoint have far better things to do than devise scams to get email addresses.

I got the same error message you did. I was trying to download the PDF with Firefox, and it just wouldn’t work. On a whim, I switched to Internet Explorer and was able to download the PDF with no problem.

Got the email about 10 minutes after requesting it, but I am having trouble downloading the 22mb file on what is normally a very fast internet connection – No doubt it will work when I try again next time, after the initial buzz has died down.

We’ve experienced massive demand for the PDF with up to 200 simultaneous downloads! As a result we’ve moved the file to our Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) to help deal with the demand. This is in effect now so those who’ve had trouble downloading should give it another go.

Evil marketing ploy to get more newsletter sign ups :) I’m downloading it now and saving it for a rainy day.

BTW, to whoever created the download form, there isn’t really much point in asking someone to sign up to newsletters when the address you enter is already on the mailing list. The form doesn’t quite fit in the window under Firefox either.

I can’t get the download page to load. The link came within a few minutes but the link times out every time. Perhaps it’s a traffic issue.

Hi, thanks SitePoint! I got the link email within 10 minutes or so, however when I tried to open the downloaded PDF, Acrobat 7 Reader complained that “There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired.” Anyone else have this experience? Do I have to upgrade to Acrobat Reader 8?

I’ve been able to download it, it’s not a scam, they do not resell your email addresses. Some email providers block Sitepoint’s auto-generated email as spam. Hotmail, for instance, seem to now be using a combination of blacklist (junk mail that you NEVER see), and a spam filter (junk mail that you DO see). I only know this because I’ve signed up for their “Junk Email Notifications” to make their filter better, and they sometimes show me possible spam that I’ve NEVER seen, anywhere…

So…first off, check all your email folders (if you have any manual filtering), check your junk/spam/bulk folders. If all else fails, you could try requesting it again to a different email address.
