That's rubbish, Baron. There's a huge difference between two designs evolving towards at a very similar result because of identical design pressures, and clicking 'File/Save Page As'.

You shouldn't reinvent the wheel.

There are reasons why all softwares look the same (MS Word, OOo Writer).

Both Google and Yahoo are giving the same offering.

It's kind of logical that they look alike.

The only difference between the 2 offers is the company offering it.

When I configure my Linux I appreciate having the main menu button (Start if you will) at the bottom left.

Why put it on top? To be different?

Be original where it matters.

It's not like you didn't know you were downloading the Google or Yahoo version.

And seriously, I doubt, if pure plagiarism did occur, they thought anyone would care.

Nor should this been an issue in the first place.

Every time Google does something people out there just come bashing on it.

It's always just a question of pro-MS, pro-Google, pro-whatever.

This branding battle going in the media is just a big joke.

Wounder how much money gets spent to blow stories out of proportion like this.
(be it anti Google, MS, Yahoo or whatever)

That thread on Jeremy's site is such a classic example of how people don't read other comments before chiming in. Unbelievably frustrating!

The only excuse I can think of, is they may have consciously ripped the page to use a template, intending to re-engineer it properly before launch, and the memo got lost.

If it was the other way, people would be jumping on Yahoo!, claiming it's proof that they're tired, with no fresh ideas, but when Google does it? Meh, whatever.

If you follow the link and read through the comments, you'll see that the page was designed and coded by Yahoo - Google even ripped (and slightly altered) the screenshot.

Laughable. And eeevil ;-)

To me it's different enough to pass.
Maybe it's based on a IE promotion template...

I like it when things aren't different enough to mix my relatives.

If someone ends up on the google page they'll know they already downloaded it from yahoo.

Somewhere, somehow, I think it will be less confusing for some people.

Yahoo! shouldn't get it's panties in a knot for this.
