Unique things you make--Hmmmm, to sell more, you must make more, and there are only so many hours in a day. Instead, create a booklet with the plans to make the unique thing, and sell the booklet. Be a publisher. No or only a little inventory. Print it when you get money in hand for an order. If it's fancy, sub out the printing and binding to Kinko's. Or sell it (for an upcharge) in electronic form via downloads.

Another “no duh” post from Beasley. Jeez, hope he’s not getting paid much at all to post this worthless stuff.

Keith, in the end, you're apparently reading his blogs. I wonder if Chris is at yours?

[...] Lucky for you, Chris Beasley made a very comprehensive post about this on his Sitepoint Website Revenue Strategies blog! Besides being a very successful content site owner Chris also runs a successful e-commerce site and is expecting lots of sales this Christmas season. I often recommend people to first try to find out what is made in their area. If you can work with a local manufacturer you’ll have a tremendous advantage. You will be able to save on freight costs, thus making it easier to compete on a price basis. You will also be able to keep less inventory on hand, because the manufacturer will be so accessible to you. Finally you might be able to cull a special relationship with the manufacturer to get further discounts and or first notice of new products. [...]

Yup Matt, thats exactly the type of item I'm talking about. Its fairly expensive, easy to ship, hard to find locally, durable. My only concern would be if the mount failed and the expensive TV crashed to the floor if you'd be liable... but some sort of disclaimer could cover that.

Great blog post Chris!

Another item example: Wall mounts for Plasma or LCD TV's.

I found a couple of eBay sellers that seem to do very well selling this item at a price point much more competetive than what the local electronics chains charge.... About $80-$100 CDN including shipping vs. about $350 retail.

Thanks Chris. Great post, and interesting topics you bring up. Things like this help "think outside the box" sometimes.

Gamermk, Its a blog, he can blog about whatever on his mind at the time.

Ya this wasn’t really a blog entry so much as it was an article and really should have been classified as such.

Incredibly useful none-the-less. Thanks Aspen
