ColdFusion Blackstone - MX v.7
…posted by davidjmedlock:
Okay, you saw my blog about Ben Forta’s CFUG tour this summer. So far the only two cities I’ve seen confirmed have been Phoenix, AZ and Jacksonville, FL. The list is incomplete as of now, though, so those of you in other cities can keep your fingers crossed.
As a part of the tour, Ben will be discussing ColdFusion “BlackStone” - the next version of ColdFusion MX (v. 7). Now, we all know that programmers are more curious than cats. (Though seldom do I hear the phrase “curiosity killed the coder”.) So, I started digging and didn’t have to go too incredibly far to get some juicy tidbits on CFMX 7. Anything in this blog, though, is unconfirmed, so don’t hold me to it:
- Flash forms will be available using CFFORM (very cool)
- A CFGROUP tag that allows you to group forms into tabs, accordion interfaces, etc. (also very cool)
- A CFDOCUMENT tag that allows CF to create PDF’s and will possibly support other formats later on
Of course, it’d be absolutely awesome if they’d include some image manipulation in there, since that may …
Multi-Language Documentation Tool
With the excellent article by David Hecker on documentation running on SitePoint, it seemed timely to introduce an interesting open source documentation tool that bridges across fourteen programming languages.
Natural Docs, found at Sourceforge, includes support for C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Perl, PHP, Python, PL/SQL, Visual Basic, Pascal, Tcl, Ada, Ruby, and Assembly.
The goal with this project is to introduce automation tools which enable easy generation of HTML documentation and a resulting easy to read starting point for putting the finishing touch on an overall project’s documentation package.
The roadmap for this project is robust, including enhanced support for the languages noted, the ability to migrate from other documentation platforms (i.e. like JavaDoc), the ability to output into PDF as well as HTML, and finally, to allow users to create custom settings files to control the output of Natural Docs.
The interesting twist on Natural Docs is that it can enable development folk who might be working with Java on Unix (using JavaDoc) and working with Visual Basic or C# on Windows (using a proprietary or other documentaion tool) to standardize on one documentation platform.
I would be interested in hearing what documentation tools SitePoint readers are using.
MozNGW - XUL helping Groupwise users
Via Neil - MozNGW - a cross platform client for GroupWise (Novell’s groupware suit with much in common with Lotus Notes or Microsoft’s Outlook + Exchange) build with Mozilla’s XUL ( what’s XUL?). Very cool stuff.
Also interesting is some of the other projects RedbackSystems are working on such as WebACT (seems to be an XUL based equivalent to phpMyAdmin and uses PHP to act as the server side “listener”) and XULU, a framework for building XUL applications. Nothing to download and play with yet, unfortunately but looking at their earlier XULU prototype xAe (SVG plugin required) makes me think these guys are more than just mouth.
