Uncle SitePointOn the SitePoint Forums, our community has cooked up a fun new project: we’re building a new theme for bbPress.
bbPress is the forum package by the creators of WordPress. It’s free, lightweight, and deceptively simple—hiding underneath its plain exterior is a powerful base for some seriously cool forum functionality. Unfortunately, there are very few great themes available for it,  Here’s the plan:

  • First up is planning the user interface and creating some wireframes—see what’s happening here.
  • Next up is the HTML and CSS coding.
  • Third, there’s a plan to build some cool features into the theme using PHP.
  • There’ll be a competition, hosted by our pals at 99designs, to help decide on the final look of the theme.
  • Of course, all that hard work will need to be inserted into some bbPress theme templates.
  • What’s a cool theme without a catchy name?
  • Finally, the theme needs to be beta tested thoroughly before the theme’s official release.

As you can see, there’s a need for all kinds of people—whether you’re into tinkering with PHP, writing JavaScript, creating lovely designs, or cooking up fun names, this project has something for everyone. Sounds like fun? Then jump on board! If you’re not already a member of the SitePoint Forums, it takes just a few minutes to set up a free account.
