Head of Software (Wireless)

Head of Software We are currently searching for a Head of Software on behalf of one of our key clients in Cambridge that is going through a significant round of growth. As the selected Head of Software, you’ll be responsible for leading, developing and managing a talented software group working on next generation wireless products that will be supplied to a global client base. The role includes five direct reports made up of Team/Technical Leaders and a wider group of up to fifty Software Engineers. Key responsibilities for the role of Head of Software will include: Leading and managing a talented pool of software engineers to deliver innovative solutions, define, and execute on software development programmes. Guiding and supporting the team in the continuous improvement of Agile development practices Developing and delivering a strategic technological vision for software development Collaborating with key stakeholders to ensure delivery against agreed current and future priorities Implement mechanisms to monitor, manage and provide progress on all software development activities Ensuring all software development projects are completed on time and within budget. Taking responsibility for departmental and project budget forecasting, estimation, and control. Creation, implementation and monitoring of a continuous improvement plan for software development Ensuring that the skills and experience of the Software team is consistent with business needs As the selected Head of Software, your experience should include the following: At least five years in a management role A background in embedded software within a product development environment A thorough understanding SW development processes and tools including elements such as Version/Configuration Management, Issue tracking tools, CI/CD, SAST and SCA Experience of managing departmental budgets Exceptional organisational, interpersonal and project management skills Experience with mentoring & coaching, performance management, technical arbitration, workforce and resource planning. ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
