Job Title : GOSC Junior Engineer Location : Corsham Security Clearance Requirement : DV (Developed Vetting) Business Area : Cyber Security Operations The Opportunity We are seeking a GOSC Junior Engineer to support critical Defensive Cyber Operations for the Ministry of Defence. In this role, you will be responsible for defending both fixed and deployed MoD networks across various security tiers. You will play a key role in detecting, analysing, and responding to cyber security incidents, contributing to the protection of national infrastructure. As part of the Defensive Cyber Operations Centre (SOC), you will use advanced security tools, such as IDS/IPS systems, firewalls, and SIEM platforms, to monitor network activity and detect potential threats. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to develop their skills in cyber defence and work alongside a dedicated team of security professionals. Key Responsibilities Incident Response : Assist in responding to cyber security incidents, identifying potential threats, and implementing mitigation strategies. Security Alert Analysis : Monitor network alerts and security events, identifying suspicious activity and determining its cause. Intrusion Detection : Use IDS/IPS tools to detect potential intrusions and prevent unauthorized access to MoD networks. Log Analysis : Analyse log files from various systems, such as network traffic logs and security systems, to identify threats. Incident Triage : Help prioritize incidents based on severity and impact, providing recommendations for quick resolution. Reporting & Analysis : Contribute to cyber threat analysis and reporting, helping identify trends and areas for improvement in security protocols. Network Security Maintenance : Assist in configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting security systems within the MoD’s IT infrastructure. Support Senior Engineers : Work closely with senior engineers and SOC analysts, assisting with technical tasks and gaining valuable on-the-job experience. Your Profile To be successful in this role, you should have a strong interest in cyber security and be eager to develop your technical skills. We are looking for candidates who are proactive, analytical, and able to work effectively within a team environment. Key Requirements : Cyber Security Knowledge : Basic understanding of cyber security principles and tools, such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, and SIEM systems. Incident Response : Some experience or interest in responding to security incidents and monitoring network activity for threats. Networking Fundamentals : Familiarity with network protocols and concepts (e.g., IPSEC, BGP, OSPF) is advantageous. Analytical Skills : Ability to analyse data from multiple sources and identify potential security risks. Problem-Solving : Strong troubleshooting skills and a proactive approach to resolving security issues. Willingness to Learn : A desire to continually develop your skills and grow your knowledge in cyber defence. Team Player : Ability to collaborate with colleagues and work under the guidance of senior team members.
