Role Description The Requirements Manager acts as the linchpin between business needs and technical solutions. They gather, analyse, and document user requirements, ensuring they're clear, comprehensive, and achievable for development teams. They collaborate with stakeholders across departments, translating business objectives into technical specifications and fostering communication to guarantee the final product meets user expectations. They manage changes to requirements to ensure traceability at all time of where requirements have come from and what features or products have delivered those requiremets, ensuring that stakeholders confirm acceptance upon delivery. Gather & Analyse Requirements :Collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, and end-users to understand their needs, pain points, and desired functionalities for new IT systems or enhancements. Document & Communicate :Clearly document user requirements using industry best practices (e.g., user stories, use cases) and ensure all stakeholders have a clear understanding of the project scope and objectives. Bridge the Gap :Act as a liaison between business and technical teams, translating business goals into technical specifications that developers can understand and implement. Manage Change Effectively :Facilitate workshops and meetings to gather and manage changing requirements throughout the project lifecycle. Ensure Quality & Testing :Work closely with developers and testers to ensure the final product meets user needs and adheres to all technical specifications. Maintain Documentation :Maintain and update requirements documentation throughout the project lifecycle to reflect any changes or updates. Budget Responsibilities The role holder: No direct budget responsibility but responsible for working within project estimates for work and supporting estimating activity for next phases Competencies Knowledge: Minimum 3-5 years' experience in IT requirements gathering, analysis, and documentation. Strong understanding of software development lifecycles (SDLC) and Agile methodologies (a plus). Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to break down complex user needs into clear requirements. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders, both technical and non-technical. Proficient in writing clear and concise user stories, use cases, and other technical documentation. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Skills: Understanding of SDLC & Agile methodologies :Familiarity with Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) phases and how requirements fit into the development process. An understanding of Agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban) is also beneficial, especially in fast-paced development environments. Knowledge of IT systems and technologies :While not requiring in-depth technical expertise, a basic understanding of IT systems and relevant technologies for the projects they manage is helpful. This allows them to better understand user needs and translate them into actionable technical specifications. Requirements elicitation :Strong ability to gather requirements from diverse stakeholders through interviews, workshops, user research, and other techniques. Analysis & Prioritisation :Skill in analyzing gathered requirements, identifying potential conflicts, and prioritizing features based on importance and feasibility. Problem-solving :Ability to identify and address potential roadblocks in the requirements gathering process and find solutions to ensure clear and complete specifications. Communication :Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively document requirements and communicate them to both technical and non-technical audiences. Active listening :Ability to actively listen to stakeholders and understand their needs and concerns. Collaboration :Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with business stakeholders, product owners, developers, testers, and other project team members. Negotiation :Skilled at negotiating requirements and managing stakeholder expectations while ensuring project feasibility. Technical writing :Ability to write clear, concise, and well-structured technical documentation, such as user stories, use cases, and functional specifications. Requirements management tools :Proficiency in using requirements management tools to capture, document, track, and manage requirements throughout the project lifecycle. Project Management :Basic understanding of project management principles to ensure requirements are aligned with the overall project timeline and budget. Organisation & Attention to Detail :Highly organised and detail-oriented to manage multiple projects, track requirements changes, and maintain accurate documentation. Adaptability :Ability to adapt to changing priorities and requirements throughout the project lifecycle. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (Master's degree preferred) or 5 years of demonstrable experience as a BA or Requirements Manager. Have technical training eg BCS Diploma, Lean six sigma, agile Behaviours Collaboration Drives high standards of performance through cooperation and teamwork Creativity Balances imagination and information to identify solutions Adaptability Responds to change with positive action Integrity Demonstrates commitment to the BAE Systems values Courage Takes appropriate risk and leads with humility Recruitment Summary Role Title for Market: Requirements Manager This role in a nutshell: This role reports to the Product Line Manager for a given Product Line and owns the elicitation, documentation, communication, and management of requirements for that Product Line, ensuring at all times that the Product Teams are working on features that deliver against agreed user requirements, communicating with stakeholders to confirm acceptance of features once delivered. What you will deliver: Clear user stories & requirements documents: Capture needs of users and stakeholders in an easy-to-understand format. Technical specifications: Translate business goals into actionable instructions for developers. Communication & collaboration: Facilitate workshops and ensured all parties (business & technical) are aligned. Managed change: Adapt requirements documents as project needs evolved. Quality assurance: Work with developers and testers to ensure the final product meets user needs. Within your first 6 months you will: Documented Processes :Develop a clear understanding of the existing requirements gathering, analysis, and documentation processes within the organisation. Product Line Familiarity :Gain a good grasp of the Product Line and associated Products, their goals, and user needs through existing documentation and discussions with stakeholders. Tool Proficiency :Become proficient in using any requirements management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence) used within the team. Basic User Stories & Requirements :Start by gathering and documenting requirements for smaller product features or enhancements, practicing clear and concise communication. Stakeholder Engagement :Build relationships with key stakeholders (business users, product owners, developers) to understand their needs and communication styles. Improved Documentation Templates :Identify opportunities to improve existing requirements documentation templates for better clarity and maintainability. Detailed User Stories & Technical Specs :As you gain confidence, start tackling more complex features, creating detailed user stories and associated technical specifications for developers. Change Management Plans :Assist with developing change management plans to address any evolving requirements or shifting priorities throughout the project lifecycle. Improved Collaboration Strategies:Identify opportunities to streamline communication and collaboration between business stakeholders and technical teams.
