We are hiring for Network Engineer (Automation) in Ottawa Office Canada (Hybrid: 2–3 days/week onsite or as needed) Overview: Join IP/Optical Networks team to drive development of automation tools that support professional services for major telecom clients. This role blends advanced telecom knowledge with hands-on software development in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities: Work across the full development lifecycle—design, develop, test, and deploy automation tools. Collaborate closely with architects and senior engineers to ensure high-quality deliverables. Troubleshoot and resolve complex system and code-level issues. Design and implement robust, scalable software features and tools. Continuously optimize system performance and architecture. Contribute to documentation, code reviews, and solution design sessions. Support root cause analysis and help scale existing infrastructure. Required Qualifications: Telecom Experience: Minimum 5 years in the telecom/IP/MPLS space, preferably with a Service Provider supporting mobile and enterprise services. Technical Skills: Strong coding skills in at least one high-level language (Python preferred; Java, C#, or Jinja also acceptable). Solid understanding of IP/MPLS technologies (IPv4/IPv6, L2VPN, L3VPN, VLL, QoS, Multicast, BNG, CGNAT, redundancy). Hands-on experience with scripting (JavaScript, HTML5) and PHP-based front ends. Proficient in Linux environments and virtualization concepts. Automation & DevOps: Experience with orchestration tools (StackStorm, Ansible preferred). Familiarity with Jenkins or other CI/CD tools. Containerization knowledge (Docker preferred) and automation of server deployment/config. Database & Systems: Experience with non-relational databases (MongoDB preferred). Comfortable working with source control systems (Git preferred). Familiar with OpenStack, Mistral workflows, and SDN technologies. Soft Skills: High attention to detail and quality coding practices. Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid team setting.
