Graphics Processing Units (GPU) driven industries like gaming, machine learning, and technical computing are growing rapidly due to rising GPU performance. As performance increases, so does the opportunity for optimizations, both the traditional kind and in novel areas such as compression. The Compiler and Content Tools team is responsible for advancing graphics and GPU programming by driving new initiatives to design, implement, and expose the latest in GPU hardware features. We work with hardware partner teams to develop new features, and with game/app developer teams to make sure those features meet their needs. We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer Lead to help us define and build the future of GPU programming via both HLSL and DirectStorage for Xbox and Windows. In Core OS, we are responsible for the Operating Systems that power Azure, Microsoft's Linux OS, the platforms for Windows Client and Xbox, and our Windows Server ecosystem – through all of these, we support every one of our cloud businesses and billions of customers around the world. Responsibilities Builds and maintains communication with key partners across the Microsoft ecosystem of engineers. Acts as a key contact for leadership to ensure alignment with partners' expectations. Builds partner teams across Microsoft (e.g., Xbox, Office) and their end goals for products to drive and achieve desirable user experiences and fitting dynamic needs of partners/customers through product development. Monitors project progress. Lead a team of engineers working closely with the latest GPU hardware for both Xbox and Windows. Work with our industry partners to ensure our compiler and content tools can deliver best in class content and performance. Work with customers, partners, and stakeholders to help define a roadmap for the future of GPU usage. Grow and mentor engineering team. Drive modern software engineering practices through code and design reviews. Other Embody our culture and values Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4 years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience. Other Requirments: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8 years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6 years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience. 2 years people management experience. LLVM (or equivalent) compiler experience. 1years of Compression and/or IO experience. 1 years of experience shipping compilers and/or games. Knowledge and understanding of modern rendering techniques and a good understanding of how GPU hardware functions as well as the APIs used. Software Engineering M4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
