Senior Data Engineer Salary: The starting salary is £58,310, which includes allowances totalling £2,841. The salary is broken down as £55,469 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £60,507. Plus, a location allowance of £1,841 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000 . Location: This role can be based in either Sidcup, Hendon, or Lambeth with some travel across the Met estate as required. The role is offered as a hybrid work pattern, with 2 days expected in the office. Security Clearance: This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post; with a willingness to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) once in post, if required. As one of our Senior Data Engineers, you will be instrumental in leading one of our teams that designs, builds, and maintains the data pipelines crucial for the Met’s operations. You’ll manage a team of Data Engineers, mentor junior colleagues, and collaborate closely with other teams to ensure that our data systems are robust, reliable, and ready for the challenges of modern policing. Currently, Data Engineering work in an on-premise environment but are working to transition to Microsoft Azure in late 2024 and early 2025. Essential skills: Technical Expertise: A strong background in data engineering with hands-on experience in SQL, ETL tools, and data warehouse design. Leadership Experience: Proven ability to lead and mentor a team, manage projects, and collaborate with stakeholders. Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to navigate complex challenges and provide innovative solutions. Communication: Proficient in translating technical requirements into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders. Desirable Skills: Cloud Experience: Experience designing and implementing in Azure, AWS or other cloud platforms using Azure Data Factory, AWS Glue, Databricks or similar. Programming: Skills in Python, Java, or similar languages, with Machine Learning experience being very advantageous. Agile Methodology: Familiarity with Agile working practices.
