Job Title: Contract Senior Engineer (MacOS, Networking, Data Centre) Location: Manchester Contract Length: 6 months (with potential for extension) Day Rate: Competitive, DOE About the Company: This company provides peace of mind by ensuring that all your electronic communications are archived on a reliable, robust, and cost-effective platform. Cloud Native: Our cloud infrastructure adapts to scale according to your requirements. Data Sovereignty: Choose any location for storing your data to comply with procurement and storage regulations. Fidelity: Record dynamic web content, including complex JavaScript applications made with React, Angular, and Vue, which others cannot. SaaS Platform: Utilise an intuitive platform to access all archives, complete with full-text search, analysis, and reporting features. Search & Download: Easily search for and download archives straight from the platform. What You’ll Do: Whilst we have always taken a cloud-first approach to infrastructure, the next phase of our product development will require us to install, configure and maintain our own data centre for Mac hosting. We need someone who will be comfortable leading on this, ensuring that our system is secure, maintainable and has good availability. This role will require you to be comfortable working at a strategic and hands-on level. Key Responsibilities: MacOS Systems Administration: Maintain and harden MacOS systems across multiple environments, ensuring robust security and compliance. Networking & Connectivity: Manage and optimise connectivity between on-premise systems and cloud services (ideally AWS). Hardware Setup & Maintenance: Co-ordinating the installation, configuration, and maintenance of physical servers and network hardware in a data centre setting. Data Centre Work: You’ll need a deep understanding of how to operate racks in a data centre, including installing hardware, setting up connectivity, and troubleshooting issues. Scripting & Automation: Develop scripts using bash, AppleScript, or similar to automate tasks and improve operational efficiency. Security & Compliance: Apply industry best practices for securing MacOS systems, including patch management, hardening, and implementing compliance measures. MDM Solutions: Manage and maintain MacOS systems via MDM solutions (ideally with Kandji). Experience is beneficial but not mandatory. About You: Extensive Experience: At least 5 years in MacOS systems administration, network management, and hardware maintenance. Data Centre Expertise: You have spent countless hours in data centres, from racking equipment to ensuring hardware is up and running. Networking Knowledge: Strong understanding of on-prem to cloud networking, including VPNs, firewalls, and network troubleshooting. Security-First Mindset: You’re experienced in security and compliance, especially around hardening MacOS systems. Proficient in Scripting: Comfortable with bash, AppleScript, and other scripting languages to automate tasks. MDM Experience (Desirable): Hands-on experience with MDM solutions such as Jamf, Workspace ONE, or similar is a plus. Why Join Us?
