Unix Engineer | 6 months (Outside IR35) | Hybrid (Edinburgh) Day Rate - circa 500 Harvey Nash's Client is recruiting for a Unix Engineer to assist in the design and build of a new Unix platform and improve the existing setup for an initial period of 6 months, working from their Edinburgh office on a hybrid basis. Main Duties: Develop and strengthen automation to support disaster recovery activities Develop and deploy automation for virtual builds of RedHat 8/9 images adhering to security best practice Support for existing UNIX infrastructure Optimisation of existing and new UNIX infrastructure Support and deploy PAM Support and deploy Ansible Tower Provide expert guidance on setup and support for current platform Continue to drive service improvements across security and system vulnerabilities Maintain existing platform to include future provisioning and best practice setup Disaster Recovery design & implementation Storage Management for RHEL & Windows on NetApp Ansible automation of OS and Application and deployments/upgrades Develop and maintain site monitoring for NetApp & Oracle using REST APIs, InfluxDB, Grafana & Nagios Regular RHEL, KVM patching and security hardening Red Hat Satellite management Jenkins administration and pipeline creation Implement and support Load Balancer technologies such as HAProxy and keepalived CommVault backup administration and agent deployment/configuration for Oracle DBs for RHEL OS and MongoDBs Work with wider assurance function to ensure DR testing procedures are well established and performant Support PaloAlto XDR across Estate Support and deliver the disaster recover assurance of digital services, striving towards a sustainable Recovery Time Objective of 2hrs and Recovery Point objective of zero. This will be assured at 6 weekend points over the course of a FY year. Skills Required: Unix RHEL 6/7/8 System administration Oracle VM administration using Oracle VM Manager Red Hat Satellite administration Automation Jenkins System configuration Pipeline creation and management Shell scripting, specifically Bash and Perl Load Balancer technologies, e.g. HAProxy and keepalived Grafana, Nagios and InfluxDB Agile working practices, including Kanban/Scrum, retrospectives, VFQ. Cyber Essentials Plus methodology Customer focused, through proactive engagement Risk aware, focused on risk reduction and mitigation Effective team working and technical decision making Designing and leading infrastructure projects Creativity - taking new approaches to tackle problems; embracing innovation and sharing knowledge with a range of stakeholders Strong documentation skills DevOps practices, including automation of infrastructure Desirable Skills: General security design and architecture knowledge Support of Oracle DBs on KVM Understanding Oracle SW & HW license model Support of MongoDB on RHEL Python Backup CommVault NetApp Ontap 9 CLI REST API MetroCluster This role falls outside of IR35 and is remote working.
