Position: Permanent Work environment: Hybrid (4 days/wk in office) Location: Calgary Salary: Up to $90,000 bonus benefits Position Overview Hammehr invites applications for the role of Instructional Designer on behalf of our client for a full-time permanent opportunity. This role is centered on delivering engaging and effective technology training sessions that enhance productivity across the firm. You will help lawyers, paralegals, legal assistants, and staff navigate critical software tools, improving both efficiency and confidence in their workflows. Our client operates in a highly collaborative environment where trainers are encouraged to bring fresh ideas, challenge the status quo, and continuously improve training delivery. This role blends traditional training, hands-on support, and user engagement strategies to drive technology adoption. What You’ll Do Deliver technology training sessions in-person and virtually, covering essential law firm applications, Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and other firm-specific tools Onboard new hires, ensuring they quickly become proficient with required software Provide ongoing user support, helping staff troubleshoot and maximize efficiency in document creation, data analysis, and workflow automation Develop and improve training materials, including step-by-step guides, tech tips, webinars, and video tutorials Engage users effectively, addressing challenges like low attendance and resistance to training by using innovative training approaches Support software quality assurance (QA) by testing new releases and providing insights from an end-user perspective Collaborate with a national training team, contributing knowledge and learning from others in Calgary, Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver Basic Qualifications 3 years of experience in technology training, instructional design, or a related role Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in a law firm or document-heavy environment Ability to train diverse audiences (lawyers, legal assistants, paralegals, partners) with varying levels of technical proficiency Experience delivering both in-person and virtual training for groups ranging from one-on-one to 30 attendees Ability to translate technical concepts into clear, practical training that enhances productivity Preferred Qualifications Experience in a law firm or other professional services environment Hands-on experience delivering training, not just creating instructional content Change management experience or a strong understanding of user adoption strategies Basic HTML and video content creation for training materials Exposure to software testing and user experience evaluation The Challenges Driving user engagement is challenging as many employees are reluctant to attend training sessions, requiring creative strategies to encourage participation and ensure knowledge retention Balancing competing priorities can be difficult, as the role involves delivering scheduled training, responding to urgent technical issues, and assisting with software quality assurance while maintaining a consistent training schedule Keeping training materials relevant and up to date is an ongoing challenge, as frequent software updates and evolving workflows demand continuous content revisions to support firm-wide technology adoption Your Impact Empower professionals across the firm by equipping them with the skills and confidence to use technology effectively, making their daily work more efficient and less frustrating Drive real change in technology adoption by creating engaging, accessible training that helps employees embrace new tools and workflows with ease Shape the future of training and technology at the firm by collaborating with a skilled team, sharing expertise, and influencing firm-wide tech strategies through user insights and feedback
