Come join our team As a Staff Software Engineer you will support active contracts on a collaborative research team. Primary Role and Responsibilities Serve as a technical expert in fast-running physics-based modeling, integration of software modules into larger codebases, terminal ballistics, and/or vulnerability/lethality analysis. Develop new approaches to terminal ballistic modelling to support government, industry, and academic end user needs. Field user requests for information, release source code, and troubleshoot end user issues. Act as a technical resource for other engineers and scientists within the company. Required Skills Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, physics, or a closely related field. 5 years’ relevant work experience. Position Requirements US Citizen Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance On-site work at ARA’s Littleton, Colorado facility Periodic travel to other ARA offices, subcontractor sites, and customer locations Demonstrated ability to work well within a team and independently. Experience working in FORTRAN Significant experience in at least three of the following: C#, WPF, JavaScript, FORTRAN, terminal ballistics, physics-based modeling Desired Qualifications Understanding of the field of terminal ballistics. Proficiency using MATLAB, C/C++, C#, WPF, javascript, and/or FORTRAN. Experience working with vulnerability and lethality codes. Experience developing software for deployment on classified and unclassified government systems. Experience developing and compiling source code for deployment in Windows and Linux environments. Experience performing fast-running physics-based modeling. Experience performing contract/grant-based research and development relevant to National Defense applications. Motivation to succeed in a cross-functional team spanning multiple disciplines to deliver results in a timely manner. A strong record of written and verbal communication through reports, peer-reviewed publications, and/or conference presentations. Demonstrated interest in leadership in areas such as: leading new research programs, development of new facilities, and being a mentor for other employees. Applied Research Associates, Inc.
