Sales & Use Tax Lead Analyst- Hybrid or fully remote Compensation: Up to $135k plus 10-15k yearly bonus Location: Hybrid (Remote & In-Office Flexibility) 2-3 days a week in office. Option to work fully remote depending on experience. Will manage data reviews and discovery efforts for local government clients, focusing on maximizing revenue recovery from California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) sales and use tax data. This role involves analyzing large data sets to identify errors and opportunities, providing technical support, and overseeing the work of 3-4 Sales & Use Tax Specialists. The Lead Analyst collaborates with software teams to improve auditing tools, builds relationships with CDTFA staff, and contributes directly to revenue generation. This position reports to the Associate Director of Tax Recovery Services. Key Responsibilities: Manage a team of 3-4 Sales & Use Tax Specialists, including task prioritization and quality control of work. Ensure thorough and timely reviews of CDTFA local sales and use tax data, set performance goals, and conduct regular evaluations. Develop and enhance auditing methodologies, collaborating with the Software Development Team to create new tools and processes. Build and maintain productive relationships with CDTFA staff to ensure efficient processing of recovery claims. Analyze large datasets to identify potential errors and recovery opportunities, focusing on key areas such as large state-wide errors, construction job sites, and use tax direct payment permits. Serve as a role model by demonstrating initiative, work ethic, and commitment to the organization’s core values. Participate in recruitment and onboarding of new team members when necessary. Preferred Skills: At least 3 years of related experience in tax recovery and/or detailed analytics. Strong research and analytical abilities to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities within large data sets. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively engaging with high-level management and accounting personnel. Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage teams and prioritize tasks efficiently. Proficiency in using various software programs, including Microsoft Office; SQL experience is a plus.
