Important People With Things to Say

We’ve begun the countdown to summer here and not before time. It has been a long, wet winter and I’ve just about had enough. The only good thing about bad weather is that it makes curling up inside with your laptop a good option. Having said that, I’m one of those fortunate people that works from home, so sitting on the deck in the sun is a better option. But there’s plenty of time to show off about that later. For now, I’m just happy that things are coming right in my world.

On the subject of good times, if you’re a SitePoint Facebook fan, I have you to thank for one of my best work weeks so far in this job. For those of you that don’t know what I’m talking about, check out our fan page. Last week it was hit by a barrage of awesome comments telling us what it is that you like about us. It’s hard not to smile when you read nothing but good feedback for a few days. So thanks.

But it’s not all about the good times over on Facebook. I am actually doing some work. We’re into week 2 of our September ‘Get To Know Us’ campaign, and the subject is cloud computing. Our CTO, Kevin Yank tells you what it is that he does for us and how that relates to hosting in the cloud. There will be a quiz at the end of the month, so if you’d like to score yourself a free book, make sure you pay special attention to what Kev has to say.SitePoint forums

Another guy that has something interesting to say around the place at the moment is Microsoft’s Mark Brown. Mark is part of their Web Platform Team and he has offered to spend some time at the SitePoint forums answering questions and giving advice to anyone that is having issues configuring or running PHP applications on Microsoft platforms. If that sounds like something that might be of use to you, drop by and post your question now. Mark will be live at the dedicated sub-forum on the third Friday of every month at 12pm Pacific time. You can find more information about that here.

Our September competition will be kicking off very shortly, and it’s going to be arty, so if you’re a creative type, keep your eyes out for more details on that.

And the last (but certainly not least) exciting thing that I’ll mention from the community this week is the addition of 4 new mentors to our forum staff. I’m excited to introduce guido2004, spence noodle and xhtmlcoder into the Community Team and Force Flow to the Hosting Team. That’s 4 more important people with things to say. We’re on a roll.

And last up for this week, in the HTML and XHTML forum the talk is all about that age-old subject, dealing with pngs in IE6.
