As part of the shake up that I’ve been promising, I decided to look fear in the eye and find out exactly what you think of the SitePoint Forums.

On Tuesday I sent out an email to anyone that had been an active forum poster in the last 5 years and asked them to drop in and deliver some good honest feedback and this is what they told me. There is some really great encouragement as well as some suggestions as to what we could do better and it gave me the perfect opportunity to take a good hard look at the things that you don’t much like and to let you know just what it is that we’re doing about it. So thanks to everyone that participated, and if you didn’t, it’s not too late.

On an exciting note, the thing I love the most about blogging is that it is the perfect opportunity to show off. I’m going to take this opportunity to tell you that yesterday we set a pretty cool record. And here you have it: Most users ever online was 3,914, Yesterday at 04:56.

If you’re a bit of a whiz when it comes to graphic design, then this design contest just might be the thing for you. I’m looking for an image to replace the keyboard image that I’m using in this post. I have no preconceived idea of what it may look like, but it needs to represent the SitePoint Community. If you design the winning image, you’ll see it featured here every week, I’ll attribute it to you and link back to your site. There is one week left so get designing!

The thing that I’m most looking forward to over the next week is the vBulletin upgrade that is on the cards. We will be upgrading the forums to vBulletin 3.8.5. There will be a two hour maintenance outage from 1600 to 1800 this Sunday AEST. That’s Australian time, so I’ll leave it to you to figure out when that is in your world.

Speaking of the world, things are starting to cool off down here in little old NZ as we head into winter. I guess for many of you that means that things are just hotting up. To everyone that has been tortured by my tweets about balmy days on the deck, I guess now it’s your chance for payback.

Hot Topics This Week
Whether or not you’re a Microsoft fan-boy, you have to hand it to them, they don’t let the grass grow under their feet. The first preview of IE9 is available for download and we’re talking about it here in the Industry News forum.

Last weekend I got a fair few responses when I tweeted the hard question “Is 50 to old to be a web designer?” If that question makes you nervous, have no fear, the answer seems to be a fairly resounding “no”. Check out the Careers and Education forum where you’ll find the thread to have your say.

Over in How To Buy And Sell A Website they discuss the tax implications of selling your site. I confess that even just the thought of the ‘t’ word makes me quiver, but it’s worth thinking about…

This week in General Chat our very own mattymcg goes all supernatural on us and poses that age old question – “Do You Believe in Ghosts?

So there you have it. There’s crazy things going on at the SitePoint forums and we want you to be part of it!
