Your Thoughts on Eckart Tolle

You’ve got to love it when you misspell words/names in your topic titles. It should be “Eckhart Tolle”.

I first encountered the spiritual teachings of Eckhart Tolle a couple of years ago in the form of a DVD which my Mum had borrowed from a friend. At the time, it was interesting, but nothing more; in other words, I didn’t connect with what he was saying at the time. About 6 - 9 months later, some family members were watching the first episode of Oprah’s web series on Eckhart Tolle’s new book, titled “A New Earth”. I had just walked out of my room and was wondering what was being watched on TV. I stood behind the couch just to have a glimpse, but an hour later when the episode had ended, I found myself still standing there. Since that time I’ve followed Eckhart Tolle’s teachings, in the process buying a couple of his books (reading each multiple times over) and watching the full Oprah web series on him and his latest book.

Personally, his teachings have had a profound affect on me. One of the interesting things I find about what he teaches, is that he doesn’t promote any of the things that usually come with spiritual teachings (such as main-stream religion). Although he doesn’t provide “evidence” for everything that he teaches, it doesn’t require it. It’s like he’s teaching maths; once you understand basic maths, you don’t dispute that 2 + 2 equals 4.

After reading some other remotely-related discussions here in the General Chat forum on Sitepoint, I’ve decided to ask what others experiences are with Eckhart Tolle’s teachings, and what effect (if any) they had on you? Please feel free to disagree with, or criticise his teachings if you feel the need to.

r937 is right… and that’s why you only find threads that remotely, and very remotely, are related to this topic. Thread closed.
