Yahoo IM (YM)

I use Yahoo IM on a regular basis to interview & communicate with staff & the other day I was interviewing someone in the UK.

I IMed one sentence & 11 seconds later, asked a question. While he responded to my first comment, it took him 5 minutes more to respond to my question & he only did so after I asked him if he was going to answer my question.

I sometimes have to do this when people are thick & can’t read English properly.

He’s claiming my 2nd question didn’t show up until a minute later. Of course even if it was 1 minute later, 4 minutes to type out a 1 1/2 line sentence is way too slow.

My question is, has anyone else found that Yahoo lags when it comes to delivering IMs?

I’ve never had this problem before, he’s the first one.

Anyone who’s slow in responding is usually a very slow typist or a very slow thinker or doesn’t know how to write properly & keep the conversation going by saying something like, “Hmmm…” to show they are thinking.

My main questions is, does Yahoo have a problem. He’s now saying this has nothing to do with the time zone even though yesterday I’m sure that’s what he said.

I know the time zone shouldn’t matter at all, it’s supposed to be in real time.

Thanks

Michelle

Hi Michelle,

I’ve never had a problem with IM’s lagging at all - voice chat, yes - but that’s not your question! I guess he was just a bit slow on the up take unfortunately! I’ve communicated with people all over the world on there and I’ve never had a problem. Perhaps it might be worth considering approaching Yahoo! direct if it keeps recurring.

All the best,
Hazel

Mich, you were probably just talking to someone who wasn’t clued up and Googling the answers or had a slow-ticking clockwork brain? I hope you weren’t planning on employing them to be getting paid by a ‘per/hour’ basis. LOL! Even on a dire connection it wouldn’t take that long using such a service.
