WOT and SEO

WOT is a handy little program which can be easily installed on your web browser. It depends good and bad sites allowing users to give ratings, currently there are over 30 million downloads and counting. I’ve installed it and I’ve been amazed with the results.

Anyhow, my question is will WOT count in the search engine rankings. I’ve already seen high ranking websites with a red dot on them. I’ve admittedly already stopped clicking on red websites. Many of those sites aren’t spam, but mainly made red through a bad/misleading advertising campaign. One of my competitors got caught out by spamming forums and not responding to them, simply to get the link-back. This caused somebody to give them a bad WOT rating.

I can see Google in the future taking WOT ratings into account, it would certainly be an end to bad forms of search engine optimization as things would be made transparent by people’s reactions to websites.

WOT is just a browser bar that allows you to indicate if a site is scam or not, according to your opinion. The only way it can affect Google is because those who had the bar may stop visiting a site that WOT flags as dangerous and we do know that traffic does affect ranking.

Whether Google will take WOT in its algorithm to calculate ranking is something we don’t know. WOT has nothing to do with Google and don’t depend on them… but it wouldn’t be the first time that Google buys a company if they see a benefit on it

I can see a huge benefit from Google buying WOT. It’s something invaluable. I’ve rated my website, but considering I am only one person it’s not showed up in green making it very hard to falsify results.
