Words versus kinds

Sitepoint Members,
Which website will draw more traffic than the other via search engines?

A site sports.com and I use the word “sports” frequently
or
A site sports.com and I write about 20 different sports and use the word “sports” infrequently?

Assume both sites have the same number of words.

Thanks,

Chris

I don´t understand your question…

On the one hand you will create a site with one big sport article - on the other hand you will create a website with many different sports articles?

Ita,
The first uses the word “sport” or “sports” frequently (say thoughout 20 pages) but doesn’t dwell on any sport.
The second uses these terms infrequently but talks about 20 different sports specifically (throughout 20 pages). They are far from the same site in SEO terms.

Chris

Search engines are smart enough to know that football, hockey, baseball, cricket etc are all types of sports. If you have a site that features all of those, Google will associate it with sports. If you have a site with articles about boiling eggs, painting sheds and brushing your cat, Google will not associate it with sports. If it’s about sports, you don’t need to specifically use the word ‘sports’ all the time, search engines can figure out that it’s about sports. Of course, if you use the word ‘sports’ too often when talking about sports, even when it’s painfully obvious you’re talking about sports and so don’t need to use the word ‘sports’, you’re likely to be writing something that is absolutely awful to read.

And if you don’t believe how ugly keyword-stuffed text is, just have a read of that paragraph again, and imagine you were reading that on a website.

So if you’re writing about strategies of different sports, it’s better to have the domain sports.com (I know its no available, this is just as an example), than strategies.com (or even businessstrategies.com), because different business strategies aren’t really known by or popular by different terms or names. So Google likely won’t have a high level of association of the term “strategies” or “business strategies” with different strategies in business, where as Google will have a high level of association of the term “sports” with the many different sports there are known by name and are popular.

So I think "A site sports.com and I write about 20 different sports and use the word “sports” infrequently " will draw more traffic.

Thanks,

Chris
