Wordpress Server Management

Hi Guys,

My site is currently listed under the folling url on my server:

http://www.tonerdigital.com/wordpress/ (etc)

I am now ready to make my site public, but I have a few queries before hand. How do I remove the “wordpress” folder safely so that everything is active under tonerdigital.com/. I would also like to know if I am planning to update pages in the future, how do I do this without the public seeing this - offline so to speak.

Many thanks, (quite new to wordpress and dont want to mess my site up.)

Paul

I wouldn’t delete the wordpress folder it holds all of your site files, there is an option to change the url and instructions on how to do it once you Log In on the left hand side scroll down to Settings > General

Set the Wordpress and Site address url (follow instructions with your .htaccess and index.php file)
usually just copy and past them to your main directory

If you want an offline editor I use Windows Live Writer 2011 it’s an awesome blogging tool

Hello,

first move the files under subfolder to your main domain name folder… later you need to change all the database entries that are point path to subfolder to the main domain name.

Make sure you update things in .htaccess as well.

This is the wrong way to do this.

FIRST Log into your admin and change the Wordpress address and blog address and save, ONLY THEN move the files to the root directory.

Hy, don’t do anything without backup and double backup

It can get messy moving a wordpress folder / url - you need to update the admin before you make the change and then move the files related to your site.

If all goes to plan, it should come back up, if not, make sure you have some form of direct database access to tweak things
